Except for hankido training there were also special training exercises that included a sauna and cold ice water.

Klaas Barends (5th dan) from the Netherlands was invited by Sami Munukka (2nd dan), head of the Finnish Hankido organization, to teach two seminars and to give private instruction to the instructors of the Finnish Hankido organization. Both Klaas and Sami are students of master Ko Baek-yong (9th dan), head of the Sangmukwan International Training Center in Seoul. Klaas was accompanied by his student Levi Ras (1st dan).

On Saturday and Sunday the 25th and 26th two public seminars were taught in the city of Lohja. From Monday the 27th until Wednesday the 29th there were daily practice sessions with the Finnish instructors. These practice sessions lasted between three and four hours each day. At night the regular students at the Helsinki school had the chance to train in Hankido and Hankumdo with Klaas.

Sami, and his wife Satu Järvinnen (1st dan), were both invited to test for their next dan later this year.

In the video below Sami shows the twelve basic hankido self defense techniques. Levi is taking the falls.

Dear HKD friends and members of the IHF family,

it is with great pleasure that, on behalf of the IHF, I can invite you to join us at the International IHF Seminar that our club will host on March 17th, 2012. In 1987 we started training with a small group of HKD enthusiasts, now 25 years later, this group has grown to a club with over 200 members. To celebrate our 25th anniversary we have invited two renowned IHF grandmasters to teach this seminar. Grandmaster Ko Baek-yong (IHF 9th dan) and grandmaster Yang Yong-seok (IHF 9th dan) will be supported by master Ko Se-hwan (IHF 5th dan). This seminar is highly recommended by the IHF.
The seminar will take place in Urk and starts at 12 o’clock. The seminar is divided in two blocks of two hours each. In between the two blocks there will be a 30 minute break. After the seminar there will be enough time to take group photos.
The night before the seminar students of our school will preform several demonstrations. This evening starts at 20:00 o’clock. (see attached poster)

The costs for participating in this seminar are 20 euros for NHF members and everyone with a valid IHF membershipcard (participants should bring this card to the seminar). People from outside these federations pay 30 euros. Spectators can enter the gym for free and take pictures from the side line, providing they don’t disturb the participants of the seminar. Participants should bring a wooden practice sword.

More information is available in Dutch at http://www.chongmukwan.nl/nieuws/308/Open_Internationaal_HKD_Seminar.html
Many people come to Sangmukwan alone or with two or three people. For those who would rather be in a group and enjoy the chance to meet new faces, this is the ideal way to spend your time at our gym.

We will follow the regular program with three to four training sessions a day, but in the weekends there will be extra activities. Training at the IHF headquarters and sightseeing outside of Seoul are among the possibilities.

We have room for ten adults. Be sure to book early if you want to take part in these seminars. The price is 1,200,000 KRW per person (approx. 1,200 US dollar). This does not include your plane ticketso to and from Korea. It does include three meals a day, a place to sleep and lots and lots of training.

If you are interested in coming to Sangmukwan and train with us, please contact us at kwanjang@sangmukwan.com.

Can’t make it in May? There will be another seminar in October, however that one is already almost fully booked. In the spring of 2012 we will be hosting a two week seminar again.
